AKQA Announces 2011 Future Lions Call For Entries

‘Start Out Famous’ theme aims to inspire and reward student ideas with head start in industry recognition and future achievement.

The sixth annual Future Lions global student advertising competition, hosted by AKQA in collaboration with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, is calling for 2011 entries.

The annual competition challenges students to develop an idea for advertising a global brand in a way that would not have been possible five years ago. There are no rules in terms of media or technology, no restrictions around product or target audience and no entry fee. Winning concepts will be honored at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity on Friday, June 24 in the Debussy Theatre. Previous winners of the Future Lions competition have since been employed by major advertising agencies such as Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Mother and Wieden + Kennedy. This has been the inspiration to this year’s theme ‘Start Out Famous.’

“Future Lions aims to discover young talent that can demonstrate useful, useable and delightful ideas that redefine advertising. This year’s theme, ‘Start Out Famous’, is a call to arms to inspire the next generation of creatives with a successful head start in industry recognition and future achievement. We look forward to identifying the next crop of talent.” says Rei Inamoto, Chief Creative Officer, AKQA.

Concepts can rely on new media or use traditional media in completely new ways. Five groups of students with the winning ideas will win registration to the festival in Cannes, France, June 19–25, 2011, and be honored with a Future Lion Cub trophy – a limited-edition design created by AKQA – in recognition of their creative achievement. The deadline for submission is 29 April, 12.00 GMT.

Future Lions will also recognise the Future Lions School of the Year for the individual school landing the most student submissions to reach the final round. For the last two years, this accolade has been awarded to Berghs School of Communication (Europe and South Africa).

The 2011 Future Lions call for entries has been launched with a limited-edition poster of the now iconic lion cub trophy perched on a throne of great ideas inspired by other notable agencies. The creative concept conveys AKQA’s intention to foster a platform in which young creatives have a head start with success, referencing glory and rewards as a Future Lions finalist.
