CREATIVE EFFECTIVENESS LIONS
Our mission at Cannes Lions is driven by the belief that creativity is a powerful force for business, for change and for good. With this in mind we felt the time was right in 2017 to expand the award that demonstrates this belief through long-term quantifiable proof. As a result, we have added five new categories for a more comprehensive view of creativity's power. These new additions encompass creative effectiveness for marketing; global and regional specific results; longer-term effectiveness; and creative effectiveness for good. Internet users are now predominantly using more than one connected device, switching from desktop to mobile to accomplish tasks, consume content and interact. To reflect this more fluid approach to digital communications, a new Cross-device Campaign category has been added. Head over to Cyber Lions

In line with our focus on creativity as a force for business we have introduced the new ‘Design Effectiveness’ category that will award design strategy that drives results. We have also redefined and reshaped some existing categories to reflect more accurately todays design industry. You can find all changes and details of entry over at the Design Lions
Data has become integral to the direct marketing industry – from audience targeting to extrapolating meaningful results. To reflect the use of creative insight in a more accurate and meaningful way we are pleased to introduce three new data categories to the Direct Lions: Data Strategy, Data-Driven Targeting and Use of Real-Time Data. A refreshed Film Lion returns in 2017 with a new 360° / VR film category. You can find full details of categories and how to enter at the Film Lions awards page.
Context is everything for Media Lions, therefore breadth and clarity is required in order to recognise communication that truly shines. Refinements this year include a more definitive split between use of TV and other screens in the rebranded ‘Channels’ section. Three new specific data categories have been introduced in response to industry demand and a new ‘Excellence in Media’ section, which aims to recognise the media agencies and the craft behind the best work. As the industry finds its feet with virtual reality on mobile devices, we at Lions are listening and reflecting what correct terms, descriptions and definitions are used for new and emerging technologies. As such, we believe that it is now important to differentiate between VR experiences and 360° videos when it comes to fair judging. PR Lions has had a full restyling and comes back revitalised and reconfigured for a more clearly defined entry process. No new categories but all new entry form and definitions. Take the time to familiarise yourself over at PR Lions.
PRINT & PUBLISHING LIONS
Following on from the expansion of the ‘Print’ Lion to the ‘Print & Publishing’ Lion in 2016, this year we have focused on opening up the Publishing section further. We have streamlined the ‘C’ categories to focus solely on Publishing ‘Content’ and ‘Covers’. We are now welcoming Book, Magazine and Digital Publication entries. In an advanced and ever changing industry, Product Design Lions endeavour to keep apace and reflect the industry of now and the impact of tomorrow. With this in mind, 2017 sees the introduction of four new categories set to play a significant role within the industry. Additions to our ‘Goods’ categories include: Vehicle and Transportation Design; Medical Products and 3D Products. PROMO & ACTIVATION LIONS
A refreshed Promo & Activation Lions returns in 2017 with a brand new ‘Experience’ section for engaging, interactive, face-to-face customer focussed brand experiences with story-telling at the heart. Categories range from ‘Customer Retail / in-store’ to ‘Immersive’ customer experiences. We have also included a ‘Multi-Market Campaign’ category, which looks at campaigns and activations that reach beyond a single country or market. Find out more over at the Promo and Activation Lions
