What is the Start-Up Academy?

In partnership with pioneering digital agency R/GA, participants un-pick and re-focus their marketing strategy with workshops by a host of senior marketers. They get one-to-one sessions with everyone from brand CEOs to innovation officers straight from the Cannes Lions stage to find out how to position their company and make it stand out. And they learn how to effectively navigate the ever-evolving industry at an invitation-only demo event which brings together some of the most influential people in creative communications.

They’ll leave with a newly honed business plan, the skills they need to market themselves most effectively and a focused brand identity that’ll propel their business forwards.

The programme

This marketing bootcamp matches 15 start-ups with industry experts to sharpen their brand identity, focus business plans and help them to resonate with global brands and marketing leaders.

The programme kicks off on Saturday 17 June with a full agenda combining mentoring, exclusive presentations from the Cannes Lions community and a complete review of presentation materials. 

All start-ups will pitch to a live audience as part of the Lions Innovation Festival on Tuesday 20 June.

The package

Successful start-ups receive two complimentary passes to the Cannes Lions week, including accommodation.

Two people from each start-up must attend, one of which must be the founder. Full eligibility criteria can be found here

Academy Tutor: Patrick Collister

 

Patrick Collister is Creative Director of The Zoo EMEA, Google’s creative thinktank.

He manages a creative team dedicated to helping marketers and agencies to make more of the digital ecosystem.  

Formerly, he was the Executive Creative Director of Ogilvy & Mather, London, for seven years and Vice Chairman for two.

In his spare time he edits Directory, a magazine and online resource dedicated to showcasing innovations in communications.

He has won Gold Lions at Cannes Lions as both copywriter and creative director, the most recent being in 2013.

An eclectic, global mix of some of the biggest names in creative communications will be drawn from the Festival programme and confirmed soon. Recent speakers and mentors have included:
