First time in Cannes

A beginner’s guide to the International Festival of Creativity

There’s so much to see and do in Cannes that you won’t want to waste a minute. So it’s time to get organised! Here’s everything you need to know before you board the plane.

Top tips for first-timers

Buying a pass

You can’t do the Festival properly without an official delegate pass. There are lots of different options depending on your age, interests and how long you want to be at the Festival. All the passes are bookable online, right up until the last day.

Booking accommodation

Hotels get booked up quickly so make sure to sort your accommodation as soon as possible. Once you’ve booked your pass online, you’ll get access to significantly reduced rates on the best hotels and residences in Cannes via your Cannes Lions account. We can also help with booking serviced apartments and villas. Give our team a call if you get stuck on +44 0203 033 4000 or email us.

Getting there

The closest airport to Cannes is in Nice. It’s served by many of the major international carriers. A taxi from the airport to Cannes costs around €75–€85, or you can take the bus for €20. If you book in advance, you could even take a helicopter or a chauffeured car. For full travel details, head here.

Planning your time

Part of the fun of the Festival is seeing things you didn’t expect and discovering things as they happen. But there’ll be things that you really don’t want to miss too. It really is worth planning at least some of your time in advance – talks you want to see, parties you’re going to go to, people you want to meet. The Festival programme is available online and in the official Cannes Lions app from May. Official delegates can watch recordings of mainstage talks online in the catch-up service until July 31.

About your badge

Follow the signs for Registration when you get to the Palais des Festivals, with your confirmation email and photo ID, to pick up your badge. You need to wear it to get access to all the Festival venues, including the beaches, Cabana Town and at peak times, some of the bars and restaurants at the hotels along the Croisette. Your badge is also your ticket to the Awards Shows, Galas and many of the official Fringe events. Don’t lose it!

Seeing the winners

The Awards Shows happen on six of the eight nights of the Festival. You don’t need to reserve a seat – but check the start times and which Lions are awarded on each night here. You can see all the entries in the Basement of Palais I. The shortlist exhibition, also in the Basement, grows as juries complete their judging across the week. Winners are available online after the Festival.
