Biography

Elizabeth Rutledge oversees American Express’s global media, sponsorships, experiences, strategic brand planning and customer insights. She’s passionate about providing the “powerful backing” of American Express and demonstrating what it means to colleagues, customers and communities around the world.

Prior to becoming Chief Marketing Officer and a member of the Executive Committee in 2018, Elizabeth held various product, marketing and insights roles at American Express.

In 2024, Elizabeth was named one of Fast Company’s CMOs of the Year, an Adweek Marketing Vanguard, and Marketer of the Year by the Advertising Club of New York. She was also one of Forbes’s World’s Most Influential CMOs and the recipient of a Brand Genius Award from Adweek and Matrix Award from New York Women in Communication (NYWICI).

Elizabeth sits on the Board of Directors for the Association of National Advertisers, the Ad Council and the YMCA of Greater New York, USA.
