Paper Planes: Where Art Meets Science

Biography

British contemporary artist Es Devlin, views an audience as a temporary society and invites public participation in communal choral works. Her canvas ranges from public sculptures and installations at Tate Modern and Lincoln Centre, to kinetic stage designs at the National Theatre as well as the Olympic Ceremonies, and monumental illuminated sculptures for stadium concerts with artists such as Beyonce, Adele, and The Weekend. She is the subject of a new monographic book, An Atlas of Es Devlin, with a retrospective currently showing at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York.

In 2020 she became the first female architect of the UK Pavilion at a World Expo, conceiving a building which used AI to co-author poetry with visitors on its facade. Her practice was the subject of the Netflix series, Abstract: The Art Of Design. She has been awarded The London Design Medal, three Olivier Awards and a Tony Award.
