Biography

Matthias is the Chief Creative Officer at Scholz & Friends, where he has led creative excellence since joining the agency in 1997. Overseeing eight offices across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, he shapes the creative vision for one of the top agencies in the German-speaking region. Matthias is also a Professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where he succeeded Walter Lürzer as Head of the Department of Communication Design in 2010.

One of Germany’s most awarded creatives, Matthias has earnt 70 Lions at Cannes, including two Grands Prix, and 21 Grands Prix along with seven Best of Discipline awards at prestigious international festivals such as The One Show, Eurobest and ADC Europe. His work with clients like Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Mercedes-Benz, and McDonald’s has earnt widespread recognition.

In 2009, he was named the best Creative Director worldwide by The Drum’s World Creative Rankings and was ranked second in 2021. Matthias also sits on VML’s Global Creative Board.
