Biography

Paul Dolan is Professor of Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics. He has 150 peer-reviewed papers and 38,000 citations. He has worked closely with, and was inspired by, the Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman. He is best known for his work on happiness, which includes writing the questions that are used to monitor national wellbeing in the UK. He is the author of the Sunday Times bestseller Happiness by Design, which shows how basic principles from economics and psychology can be harnessed to make it easier to feel better. He recently conducted an experiment with Fatboy Slim, which establishes the conditions under which people become connected (physiologically synchronised) at a gig. His latest work also includes the book Beliefism: How to Stop Hating the People We Disagree With, which provides a framework for reducing polarisation. He is a season ticket holder at West Ham United, which brings him very little happiness.
