In 2022, Shahidi graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Social Studies and African American Studies, with a concentration in Black Political Thought Under a Neocolonial Landscape. Shahidi is an executive producer and star of Freeform’s series, grown-ish. She further executive produced and stars in Amazon Studios’ film, Sitting in Bars with Cake.

Offscreen, Shahidi is a champion for inclusive media programming, and an advocate for equity. She founded WeVoteNext, a platform focused on empowering young people to get involved in the political process.
