Celebrating work driving the Sustainable Development Goals

More than ever, Cannes Lions seeks to spotlight the work that drives progress through creativity.

The Sustainable Development Lions ask entrants to demonstrate how they contributed to or advanced the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development across people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships. All entry proceeds generated by the Award will be donated to SDG projects in consultation with the United Nations.

Smart Fill | Unilever


Unilever, one of India's largest consumer goods brands, has pledged to remove more than 100,000 tonnes of plastic entirely by 2025. To help work towards their goal, Unilever and VMLY&R Commerce India introduced Smart Fill — an in-store experience that let shoppers use any brand’s empty plastic container as packaging for products like Vim, Surf Excel and Comfort. By harnessing the resourcefulness mindset of Indian shoppers and turning awareness into action, their approach led to a 57.2 Kg plastic reduction per day, reached ~349 MM consumers and earned PR worth USD1.5 MM. Its simplicity and scalability will help reduce India’s plastic pollution by 50% before 2025.
