Beyond Perfection: Reframing Intimacy, Identity and Representation
Monday 22 June, 14:15–15:00
Overview
Speakers
Description:
From advertising and entertainment to social media and pornography, modern media shapes how people see themselves, their bodies, relationships, and what intimacy is “supposed” to look like. Yet many of these portrayals still reinforce unrealistic standards around masculinity, femininity, ageing, consent and connection, particularly for younger generations growing up online.
In this conversation, Cindy Gallop explores the role brands, advertisers and platforms can play in creating healthier and more honest representations of intimacy, confidence, bodies and relationships. Together, the discussion will examine how media shapes self-worth and cultural expectations, and why more authentic storytelling could have a meaningful impact on wellbeing, equality and human connection.
Questions this session will answer:
- Who taught us what love, sex, beauty and success should look like, and is it time to rewrite the script?
- Can brands help build healthier attitudes towards intimacy and identity without losing cultural relevance?
- What does authentic representation actually look like, and how can more honest storytelling drive better outcomes for individuals, society and business?
