The Terms & Conditions of Being a Girl

Wednesday 24 June, 14:15–15:00

Duration: 45 mins
Location: Empower Cafe

Description:

From unequal expectations and online abuse to safety concerns, health gaps and invisible labour, the “terms and conditions” of being a woman are often unspoken yet universally understood. In this session, Plan International explores the power of creativity to expose those realities, spark conversation and turn awareness into action through its latest campaign.

Bringing together voices from activism, media and the creative industries, the discussion will examine why campaigns like this matter more than ever in today’s cultural landscape. The panel will explore the responsibility brands, platforms and creatives have in shaping narratives around gender equality and how bold, emotionally resonant storytelling can move beyond performative purpose to create genuine cultural impact.

Questions this session will answer:

  • What are the hidden “terms and conditions” of being a girl today, and why do so many of them remain invisible?
  • How can bold, emotionally honest storytelling move beyond raising awareness to challenge inequality and inspire action?
  • What responsibility do brands, agencies, creatives and platforms have to create work that drives genuine cultural change rather than performative purpose?
