The Sustainable Development Goals Lions President's Message

David Droga President

Founder and Creative Chairman, Droga5

"The Sustainable Development Goals Lion might just be the most important Lion at Cannes and should be considered the most aspirational of all the industry awards. It is certainly the one I strive for above all others. It doesn’t need a big explanation as to why. Just take a look at the categories and importance of the subject matter: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnerships. We’re using problem-solving and our creative powers to create a positive impact on the world in these spaces. This is the stuff that moves us forward as a creative industry and, more importantly, as a civilization.

We are all citizens of this planet, and to know your work has had any kind of impact that can change the world for the better is something to truly be proud of."

Gold SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS > PLANET > CLIMATE ACTION

The legal systems of the world treat species and ecosystems as OBJECTS and PROPERTY, leading to an economy coupled with the destruction of nature. To counteract this, a new Constitution was approved in Ecuador. This constitution became the first in the world to recognize the rights of ecosystems to exist, persist, regenerate and evolve. However, multinational companies continue to challenge the new laws to push for the fracking, drilling and mining of Ecuador and the planet´s ecosystems.
