Beyond Campaigns: Rethinking How We Keep Girls in Sport

Wednesday 24 June, 16:45–17:30

Duration: 45 mins
Location: LIONS Sport Stage , The Carlton Hotel

Description:

Keeping girls in sport: Participate in a workshop led by global experts leading the charge in women’s sports, such as Susie Wolff, Managing Director at F1 Academy, and Kate Theobald, Commercial Director at Liverpool Football Club. Contribute to the Play On Charter, a framework for systemic change led by Standard Chartered who are connecting a multi sector approach with partners UN Women and the International Working Group on Women and Sport to keep girls engaged in sport.

Questions this session will answer:

  • Why do traditional campaign approaches fail to drive systemic change - and how do Western frameworks miss the barriers that matter most in the Global South?
  • What does new research from India, Kenya and Vietnam reveal about those barriers - and why are globally-informed approaches essential for meaningful impact?
  • What is the Play On Charter - and how can organisations across the private sector, sports, civil society and policy use it as a practical starting point for shifting from campaigns to systemic change?
